Vermicompost can bring out an eco-friendly and sustainable change
Vermicomposting, or worm composting, turns kitchen scraps and other green waste into rich, dark soil that smells like earth and feels like magic. Composting with worms isn’t just suitable for plants. It’s also good for the planet. It keeps food waste and other organic materials out of our trash. The end product of vermicomposting enhances soil health, fertility, and nutrient availability.
Vermicompost is the product of the decomposition method using diverse species of worms, usually red wigglers, white worms, and other earthworms, to create a mixture of decomposing vegetable or food waste, bedding materials, and Vermicast.
ADRA in Bangladesh is vigilant to promote organic fertilizer among the country-dweller aiming to bring out an eco-friendly and sustainable change in the agricultural system of Bangladesh. Thus, ADRA is organizing training on Vermicompost and Vermiculture that inspires the peasant community and extends the usability of organic fertilizer.
Vermicomposting has gained popularity in both industrial and domestic settings because, as compared with conventional composting, it provides a way to treat organic waste more quickly. Manure composting also generates products that have lower salinity levels.
Some farmers have been able to change their fate by producing Vermicompost. Some farmers are producing on a large scale and selling them in the local market and earning a good sum of money. It helps them to support their family financially. At present, Vermicompost has become very popular among the peasant communities in Bangladesh. They are using Vermicompost in their cultivable lands and getting the finest yields.
Nowadays, the department of agricultural extension underlines the production and expansion of environmentally friendly Vermicompost through input support and technical guidance among rural farmers, especially rural women.
ADRA Bangladesh is facilitating the farmers in the rural areas of Bangladesh so they can produce organic fertilizers like Vermicompost. If the utilization of Vermicompost or organic fertilizer increases throughout the country, people's health could be improved.
