Overcoming Obstacles: The Inspiring Success Story of Jannat
A 9-year-old young girl, Jannat, lives in Ershadnagar slum in Tongi. She attends class four in the Tongi Children Education Program (TCEP) of ADRA Bangladesh. She lives with her parents and two siblings in a small, cramped house. She lost her father, and her mother is sick. Her brother is the only earning person in their family. He works hard every day to make ends meet, but he barely has enough money to put food on the table.
Growing up in poverty, Jannat faced numerous challenges and hardships. Ershadnagar is an underdeveloped slum area. The area is divided into six blocks. Every block has many lanes. Houses are congested and lack sufficient daylight. The area is densely populated by settlers gathered from various corners of the country. They are mostly living on day labor, garments factory workers, motor vehicles and auto-rickshaws, small shopkeepers, etc.
Jannat is very keen to learn and attentive to her lessons, and she attends classes regularly. She used to keep herself strong, disciplined, and determined.
"I received support and cooperation from my teachers. I received essential educational materials (e.g., books, bags, pencils, school uniforms, shoes) from TCEP. TCEP provided us with nutritious meals. All these supports helped me to continue my education." Said Jannat.
Jannat was admitted in 2019 at the age of five to the Pre-Primary (PP) level of TCEP School, Tongi, Gazipur, run by ADRA Bangladesh. During the annual exam of PP, Jannat ranked 11th and was promoted to KG Level. In KG, Jannat got 8th position and was uplifted to Level I. After that, Jannat got the 5th position and was accordingly promoted to grade Two. During that session, she succeeded in taking 3rd position and subsequently advanced to Grade Three. In this past session of 2023, Jannat amazingly came forward to cut the marvelous result of making the dream reality of owning 1st place.
Slowly but surely, her hard work started to pay off. She started to excel in her studies and was soon at the top of her class. Her teachers were impressed with her dedication and hard work. They encouraged her to keep going. Despite facing numerous challenges and obstacles along the way, Jannat never gave up.
Through her perseverance and determination, Jannat proved that anything is possible if you work hard. She became an inspiration to many in her community and showed that even the toughest of circumstances can be overcome with the right attitude and mindset.
