International Human Solidarity Day and its Significance
The United Nations' (UN) International Human Solidarity Day is annually held on December 20 to celebrate unity in diversity. It also aims to remind people of the importance of solidarity in working towards eliminating poverty.
Solidarity is an awareness of shared interests, creating a sense of unanimity in societies. Cooperation and solidarity can pursue the aim of the UN of lifting people out of poverty, hunger, and disease. Feeling the importance and necessity of solidarity, the United Nations purposed 20 December of each year as International Human Solidarity Day in 2005.
The International Solidarity day is observed in order to promote the culture of kindness and sharing. This is one of the best ways to fight the horrific situation of poverty across the globe. The day is celebrated with the aim of promoting positive international relations so that we can help each other counter such problems.
The International Human Solidarity Day is based on the Sustainable Development Agenda, which in itself is centered towards lifting people out of a number of debilitating aspects like poverty, hunger, and disease.
At the international, regional, national, and community level all the roles that human solidarity plays like fostering peace, promoting diversity, poverty alleviation, and community development don’t change. Nevertheless, the importance of human solidarity is pivotal to development regardless of the level the change is experienced.
