Hasan a 12 years old youngster lives in Chalantika slum with his parents which is located at Mirpur in the capital city Dhaka. He is growing up anchoring on a dream to be a doctor. But he never knows how much money he needs for his long journey to be a doctor.
Delowar Hossain father of Hasan is a van puller by profession. His income is so poor that he cannot maintain his family properly. The life of a van puller in Bangladesh is full of travail. Delowar has to maintain a big family comprised of seven members with his little income. He cannot afford three meals daily for his family members. Since Delowar fails to arrange three meals daily for his family, he is reluctant to continue education for his children.
Shilpi Begum mother of Hasan was willing to continue Hasan’s education but she was helpless. Shipli kept searching for a way so she could educate her child. She came to know about the Chalantika Slum Children Development Project (CSCDP) of ADRA in Bangladesh from one of her neighbors. She went to the CSCDP center immediately and admitted Hasan in class four.
Hasan along with her parents are living in a slum that lacks all the basic amenities. Their house made of bamboo with a CL sheet roof. The rooms are very tiny in the slum. They cannot get the water for drinking properly which disrupts their daily life. They have to share their toilet with other eight families. They are suffering a lot due to the lack of a garbage management system. People throw garbage everywhere in the Chalantika slum which causes odor. This is the real picture of the Chalantika slum in Dhaka.
Shilpi had a deep interest in education. She talked with CSCDP authority and showed her interest in education. CSCDP authority enrolled her in the adult literacy sessions. Now, she can write her name.
